The only woman in this documentary with a significant role is Thierry Guetta's wife. One female street artist is briefly mentioned, and female reporters appear in two scenes, but I wouldn't consider them "named characters."

I don't get it, should the documentary maker have gone out of his way to find two female street artists, name them, and get them to talk to each other - even if it was irrelevant?

Alex, I think you are missing the point. It is ok to have some documentaries about men. I don't think anyone can honestly believe that every single film should pass the test. But roughly what percentage do you think do and what should? How many documentaries have you seen with virtually no male presence?

Thierry Guetta's wife AND Sheppard Fairey's wife are both in this film. Granted, they don't speak to eachother, or even have big roles, there are two women in this film.

Judith disagreed with the rating and said:
It passes the first criterion, in that there are three women: Thierry's wife, Shepard's wife, and Swoon, the street artist. Swoon is even identified by name.

I reckon Judith is wrong. The interpretation of the test here is that there have to be at least two *named* women, and it seems that only Swoon is named. That means that the original rating was correct, including the claim that the film failed all three criteria.

Jason I get what you're saying, that there definitely be MORE documentaries about women/less male presence. But I still think that putting documentaries through the test and putting them on the same level as fictional movies is a tad silly. If we're going to put them through the test then it should be made clear and obvious that the movie is a documentary because, as others said, the documentary can't really help if there are few females or too many males. If they're focusing on well-known graffiti artists they're looking for the best of the best, not trying to discriminate based on gender (or at least I hope they're not).

It's seriously up for debate whether or not this is a documentary.

Emily Kane disagreed with the rating and said:
Thierry's wife, the artist Swoon, Shepherd's girlfriend, and the art collector are all named here. But I don't very much like the way they're all portrayed. One artist is signed on, as well, and just said, "My girlfriend came to help us out," and nobody bothered to interview her/use any interview footage from any of the women who are walking around and helping put stuff together.
