Reading the cast list is kind of like seeing into the future when it comes to predicting Bechdels - our hopes were low, but golly, Uma Thurman with a wrench? Can the wrench be a girl? Powerhouses, both of them.

Anyway, at least 4 named women with lines, but the only time that there's actual dialogue between women, is when Uma Thurman (Rachel) is trying to sneak out of the biology lab, and asks a female coworker to take her bag, and she says "got it." We scoured the credits & IMDB, but couldn't find a name for her. So, 2 out of 3. Alas.

There ought to have been some dialogue exchanged when Rachel bashes Maya (who has been disguised as Rachel) in the back of the head with her bag (which the unnamed female coworker had secreted to her). But, again, alas.

Now, there's an argument to be made for the birds helping to pass the Bechdel-Wallace Test today. In the last scene, Paul Giamatti's character "Shorty", refers to them as "Polly" and "Tweety." My friend who's helping me write this, claims that retail pet sellers tend to sell their customers on single sexed bird pairs (so that the owners don't get overwhelmed with bird babies). Polly is *clearly* a girl name, and while the cartoon character Tweety is allegedly a boy, this need not be an argument against Tweety in Paycheck (2003) being a girl. Those birds talk to each other every time they're on screen! Further, Uma Thurman talks to the birds. So, if at least Polly is a girl, we should have an inter-species-del on our hands. If only we spoke bird, once again, alas.

It's frustrating, that Ben Affleck's character was able to see into the future, and didn't manage to contrive a situation where two named women would talk about something other than a man. It's hard to understand why Uma Thurman's character would even want to be with a guy like that. Perhaps I'm underestimating the attractiveness of a man whose mind has been wiped so many times that he's left with resting himbo face...
