Sonya and Katana never once spoke to each other. All Sonya ever did was gripe at the men, and Katana only ever spoke to Liu Kang.

2) Fails, they don't speak to each other at all.

While both characters kick-ass (Sonya destroys Kano in a fight) and they are not as sexist as seen in most similar movies, they are still at the mercy of men, with Sonya (who was a strong female fighter in the beginning) being turned into a damsel in distress.
