while male-driven, at least one main female character helps drive the plot. the female characters, even when minor, are not simply accessories; they are individuals, with personality and autonomy. the females talk amongst themselves about subjects other than males, though this is not the bulk of the movie. male - female platonic relationships, in a group camaraderie sense, are shown. there is only one heterosexual relationship portrayed, and one presumedly loving and commited homosexual (male) relationship. cautions: violence is portrayed, including at least one incident of violence against a young child, at least one incident of violence against a female, and several incidents of violence against non-human animals. drug use is portrayed, indirectly. there is mention of physical and s*x*al abuse against a female child. the violence is set in the context of morality and examining the reality obscured by particular stereotypes. the homosexual relationship is looked upon with some disdain by at least one character, as is the race/ethnicity of a character of colour (who is also a figure of particular authority).
