Brilliant black/queer romantic comedy about director/writer Cheryl Dunye researching a black-and-white era black actress known for playing "mammy" roles - who she realizes was in a romantic relationship with the white woman who directed the films.
It's a really moving commentary on seeking to find oneself in history - and the acts of creation we go through when we realize that we've been left out.
If you're looking for Bechdels (named women talking about things that aren't a man), Black-dels (named black characters talking about something that isn't a white person), and Queer-dels (named queers talking about something that isn't a cishet person) - this is the movie for you!
Plus, the House Education and Workforce Committee's United States House Education Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations protested it, so you know it's good!
