Bechdel Test Movie List

Nora and Nicole have a number of conversations that aren't about men - Nora's discussion about the Virgin Mary, for example.

Surprised this one doesn't have tons of comments already.
There are plenty of named female characters characters who do speak to each other but always about a man, men in general, or relationships in general.
However the movie is ABOUT relationships so obviously that's what most characters would be talking about.
This is a prime of example of a film that presents well-written females and could be considered a feminist work but doesn't pass the difficult Bechdel Test due to the very specific requirements.

Almost every named woman has to talk to Nicole about Charlie, so it passes 2/3.

Laura Dern and Scarlett Johansson talk about her acting career before talking about her marriage to Adam Driver. Doesn't that count?

There are more than 3 named women, they have many conversations with each other, and while many of them do have to do with a man, there are at least a few times when they talk about careers.

Although not a strong pass, I agree that the film does pass all three tests. Although most of the dialog revolve around the marriage or relationships in general, at least Nicole and Nora talk about careers and Nicole's acting career as well.

So although only a few lines of dialog between women has to do with other things besides a man (Charlie or Henry), the film should indeed pass all three tests (albeit with a small margin).

This should be 3/3. Before Nicole and Nora start discussing the divorce, they talk about how Nora liked Nicole as an actress and had seen her plays.

I'm not sure if there's a scene in the movie where two men talk about something that isn't a woman or relationships, because it's called MARRIAGE STORY. I don't think the test really serves a purpose with this movie.

This movie should clearly be 3/3. Obviously the whole movie talks is about a relationship, so this subject is frequently the main topic in conversations, but there are moments where Nora and Nicole talk about other things : that discussion about Virgin Mary and how women have to be perfect all of the time, Nicole's acting career, her drinking, etc etc. The movie includes really well-written female characters, seen as strong woman with a developed narrative arc. And even when they are talking about a man, the conversation revolves a lot about relationships, divorce, independence...They are talking about Nicole's situation and her desires instead of just talking about Charlie.

This movie clearly passes the test. As stated by many commenters here, Nora and Nicole discuss societal expectations.
