The movie shows Jasmine and her handmaiden Dahlia speaking about how Jasmine would love to be sultan, but she isn't allowed to because she is a woman.

even though Jasmin is a powerful character, being a role model for many girls who watched it, I still don't think this movie should pass the test. The conversation between Dahlia and Jasmin that was mentioned above was extremely short. Shorter than a minute for sure. Most of the time they talk about her marriage and about Aladdin.

Please note that this is the Live Action version of the film. Jasmine doesn't have a handmaiden to talk to in the original animation.

I cannot disagree or agree, while I think it is awesome that the 2019 live action film added the character of Dalia the handmaiden to incorporate another female role. I also think most if all their interactions were based around male context. Yes, jasmine and Dalia spoke about her wishes of becoming sultan but in the same scene talking about a "handsome prince". Then later in the same conversation referring back to the "useless prince".

I don't think the movie passes the test. Yes there are two named female characters, yes they talk to each other but ALWAYS about a male. The conversation about the wish of Jasmine to be sultan is actually just a couple of sentences.

Theres no requirement that there be a long conversation not about a man. This is a (common) case where passing the test doesnt mean theres much of substance discussed between female characters, much as I love the way they gave Jasmine agency and power in a way that she didnt get in the original as well as the character of Dalia. But I think the movie clearly passes the test.

I agree with Alex Hill. The test doesn't require the entirety of a conversation not to include discussions of men, just for at least one interaction to be about something other than a man.

I'm so happy this movie passed the test, considering the original movie passed 0 of 3 tests.
Also, I wonder why my comments are never seen in the page. I've made several comments and even tried to add movies but they just never appeared in the page.

Dahlia and Jasmine talked about how Jasmine wanted to become Sultan. Although the conversation is short, she mentioned her mother's advice and how she would become disappointed if she saw what happened. This shows how woman can become strong leaders.
