Strong female lead talks to lots of other female characters about all kinds of plot-relevant things.

Passes the test by a long shot, & more film makers should look at Miyazaki's work as examples of great movies with REAL strong, never sexualized, women leaders.

Just for the heck of it (as it isn't necessary), I'd like to voice my agreement with the above comments. Miyazaki films are all terrific examples of how to do things. The only way one of his films would NOT pass this test would be for it to lack many female characters by plot necessity (though I doubt he would care for many such stories).

This wonderful movie easily passes the tests. The protagonist, Chihiro, is one of the very best characters of all Cinema: a young girl who loses her parents in a freak situation and has to adapt to bizarre circumstances, gaining strenght and wisdom on the course of the movie. On her journey, she speaks to several female characters such as Lin, Yubaba and Zeniba, and has at least one interaction with each of them that has nothing to do with male characters.

for my college communications class

the film follows the main protagonist chihiro, who loses her parents in a "freak accident" and must adapt to her bizarre surroundings in order to get them back, i think this movie by far passes the test because not only is the lead a female but there are also many other strong female characters that chihiro talks to and asks for guidance, not to be biased since its a childhood favorite but this film along with a lot if not all Miyazaki films would pass this test.

Tomoko disagreed with the rating and said:
There are several female characters with names.
Women often have conversations with each other that are not male.
