I suppose I should know better than to expect a war movie to pass the Bechdel Test, but this one really, really doesn't.

In a huge, sprawling film (in English and Japanese) featuring hundreds of named characters, there are basically two women with dialogue; one wife and one secretary. The wife spends most of her screen time driving her husband around Washington, and the secretary hands telegrams to her boss. She does that a lot. They have no scenes together.

There is one very revealing moment: at a dinner party, one (male) officer approaches another (also male) to bring him up to date on the developing situation. While they speak together, their respective (female) dates chat amongst themselves. Two women! And they talk to each other! Sadly, their conversation is not audible, even though the shot is framed with the two of them in the foreground.

They're probably only talking about men, anyway.
