As a film set during World War II, female characters are few and far between. Most of them at the homefront or as auxiliaries to the military. An arc set in an occupied town follows more interaction between Finnish soldiers and Russian women. During the arc, the women are presented as proud and they talk to each other about the war, but the scenes still involve men.
