It's a very good film, but the female characters are few and far between.
Rhonda Fleming plays the only woman to get a name. Apart from her, there is a nameless waitress, who serves coffee in one scene, and an equally nameless secretary (who serves coffee in a another scene). No other women have dialogue anywhere in the film.
To be fair, most of the film focuses on Robert Ryan alone in the desert, talking to himself. Rhonda Fleming is the no-good wife who has left him to die of thirst, and she spends most of her screen time making nookie with her illicit (male) lover/conspirator.
