This is arguably one of the great feminist movies in that it is led by three extremely strong women and one (or three if you wish) even more powerful girl. At the same time the male characters are respectable and emotionally present (although there wouldn't have been men if the studio hadn't made the director create their roles). Although technically a horror film, there are many cerebral elements here that are easily overlooked. But with a cast this small in size, I dare anyone to find a movie that passes the test any harder. ;)

Uhm, actually the reverse is true. The mother was initially the dad in the game, with the mother dead. The director created that role for a woman.

I believe you misunderstood, Jen. Neolmas was referring to tidbit of trivia about the film's production: the original script had no men in it. This script was sent to Sony (iirc), and was sent back to the writer with a sticky note saying "Where are all the men?"

So two men were added to the script before it was finalized. They don't do anything important, tho Sean Bean's character can tell when his wife is nearby, but in the Otherworld.

The fact that "Rose" was originally "Harry" in the video game has little to do with it. IDK if Harry was ever in the script at all. Apparently Hollywood thought that audiences couldn't accept a caring father but could accept a caring mother.

Anyways, did the women EVER talk about men in this movie? I think they might have referred to Pyramid Head as "it" or "him" in a couple lines.

This movie may even fail at the reverse test. I dont recall any men talking to another man about anything other then a woman. (Ie the wife/daughter/nun/villian)
