Several of the female characters have one-on-one discussions about the friendship dynamics between themselves and other females. One conversation between the protagonist and her little sister concerns the former being bullied at school, while there's another conversation between four of the primary characters talking about a female classmates suicide.

The film passed the Bechdel test because the majority of the characters were all female with a few exceptions of male characters (2 out of the 5 total weren't prominent characters with lines). Overall, the girls had many scenes where they talked subjects besides men. Samantha and her best friends (Ally, Elody, and Lindsay) talk about about life after high school, family issues, and friendship. Samantha and her mother also have a one- on-one conversation about what it means to be a good person.
