This film is peppered with conversations between two (named) female leads.

Firstly, Jane and her mother often discuss her situation regarding marriage. Although the conversation could be seen as being about a man, the point of the conversation is about women, livelihood and the importance of marriage in securing a future and Jane's desire to live as a writer, as opposed to being about a man per se.

In the final scene the young Jane meets with Jane (Austen) and they discuss her book.

Jane meets with ... and they discuss writing, and how it is to be a woman with a career and a husband.

Lady Gresham and Jane discuss her family.

I'm sorry, but I disagree about two of those four scenes.

1. The conversations between Jane and her mother, no matter how many tiny details you want to find, are still about a woman's need for a man to marry her to save her from poverty, shame and elevate her in society. No possible roads of personal affirmations are explored other than men.

2. The conversation between Jane and Mrs Redcliffe is not about how difficult it was for Radcliffe to be a woman and a writer, but how difficult it was FOR HER HUSBAND to have a wife who was a writer and thus 1. didn't give him enough attention and 2. shamed herself and her own family by publicly admitting that she had a profession.
Yes, those are important matters to discuss, but the central point of the discussion was the pain her husband derived from it all, not Radcliffe's perspective and her own need for affirmation and whatnot.

(I also fail to see how any of these women other than Jane's mother are considered leads)
