There are a few conversations between Vera and her daughter Olympia. These center around Olympia's studies and her mother's work. The movie is light on female characters, maybe hitting 1/3. But they are diverse, independent, and not defined by their relationships with men. The movie is a long way from perfect, but it feels like a step in the right direction.
