Garona, Draka and
Lady Taria are three named female characters. Garona and Lady Taria have a conversation where Lady Taria gives Garona a dagger for her protection. Passes.

Garona, Draka and Lady Taria are all named female characters. Garona and Lady Taria have two conversations - one about Garona's place in the world and another about gaining Garona's trust, neither of which are about men. The film passes, twice.

Agree that the movie definitely passes. Also, although I wish that the movie could have been better, or gave its women more things to do, I think Warcraft didn't do too bad on the portrayal of the female characters especially in comparison to films of its genre.

-It could be argued that Garona's story is actually much better defined and developed than the main dude's. Furthermore, her role is not defined by being his love interest at all.

-Despite their limited screen times, the other two ladies don't do too badly either. Draka is a proud fearless warrior as much as she is a mom and a wife, and Lady Taria is an active political figure as much as a loving queen. They both have scenes where they act on their own decisions and guts without their men even being present.

-[mild spoiler] There is a nice sense of friendship between Garona and Lady Taria. In the climax of the movie, when Garona is forced to do a horrible deed, I feel that she is more conflicted about betraying Lady Taria's trust rather than making the main dude mad.[/mild spoiler]

-There are clearly active female warriors on both sides of the war. This is quite nice considering how movies in this genre (ie, LOTR, The Avengers) tend to be pretty horrible at female portrayal among background characters. Plus, none of the characters make a comment about how women can't be a badass.

Pretty amazing for a movie in the Fantasy/Gaming genre to have two female characters be so integral to moving the plot forward. I'd gripe more about how stereotypical or non-integral they were but you can say that for all of the human characters as the character development part of the plot mainly focuses on the orcs, and when you get down to it the story line is quite basic if surprisingly non-campy.

Bronwyn disagreed with the rating and said:
A male character dominated movie.2 females at most throughout the whole film. Would have been interesting if the inclusion of both genders was represented in all aspects of the film.
