The movie begins with Billie and her mother, Lillian. She must put her child up for adoption and tells her she'll come get her as soon as she can (she's an alcoholic). Billie's friends, Roxanne and Louise, serve as her support system. They have maybe two conversations that aren't about boys. The first is when they first meet and the second is when Billie's two friends are cut from her music video.
