the women in this film talk to each other about football, how they sneak into football games, and their pride in Iran.

Brian disagreed with the rating and said:
You know, I thought that if any movie would pass, it would be this one. But it fails, on a technicality. Not a single character in this movie is "named," let alone the women. But it sure does pass in spirit.
That said, if none of the characters are named, male or female, then, for this criterion, they exist within a state of equality and the distinction named/unnamed should be disregarded.
Or, the fact that all the characters are unnamed reflects the difficulty of telling this story within a repressive culture, where a name would have given too much information leading to all sorts of unnecessary judgments about the characters (regionalism and class are often brought up by the characters in conflict).
Or maybe someone should stop me before my head gets lodged too far in an uncomfortable place.
