There are three named women in the film: Lian, Xiaoli, and Mei. Mei does not have any speaking parts despite a rather prominent role in the latter part of the movie. In a dream sequence she is seen speaking or singing, but there is no audio to accompany it. Lian and Xiaoli do have a conversation early in the film, though it is simply Lian asking for her name.
