The movie is shown from the perspective of a group of Jewish friends growing together into a troupe of gangsters, involving themselves among dirty politics, robbery, and, most notably, prohibition. Although the film itself doesn't support misogyny, its characters actively practise it often: there is an unflinching rape scene, to the utter disgust and masked anger of a valet essentially forced to watch it happen. And in the name of James Woods' performance, it's a personality trait he shows often.
Both serious female characters come in the form of tortured love interests. Both are mistreated and undervalued by these harsh characters, and, if I remember, neither share a scene with each other.
The movie was meant to have monstrous characters; it's a story of tortured self redemption, and reflection on past wrongdoing.
It isn't sexist, but it also isn't doing any favours.
