Most of this movie, written by Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone, and directed by Falcone, is about the relationship between Tammy (McCarthy) and her grandmother (Susan Sarandon), who go on a road trip together. They talk about their relationship and their failings and dreams, among other things. Tammy also has one=on-one conversations with her mother (Allison Janney), with her grandmother's cousin (Kathy Bates, in a significant role), and with a female employee she meets at a fast-food place. There are a couple of men with significant roles, but the majority of the major characters are women, and the film is focused on them, and on their relationships with each other.

While the movie passed all three components; it isn't exactly with flying colors; Tammy and her grandmother do spend a good deal of the time talking about men (Pearl and Tammy's father; relationships); but I do enjoy a different type of road-trip movie. And, also, despite what critics say, it's not a horrible movie; yes, not all the jokes are funny, and yes, it isn't exactly original or as good or as funny as "The Heat" or "Bridesmaid", but it was something different and there were funny moments.

Of course it passes with flying colors. While they do have some conversations about men, Tammy and Pearl also talk about their lives. Tammy talks about her life with Lenore. Tammy has a conversation with Becky while she's robbing the store about how they could be friends.

BTW, Louise Sawyer (from "Thelma & Louise") came back as Pearl with the same $6,700.
