Two of the film's four leads are young women. The sisters talk to each other about guys, but also zombie killing and visiting the "Pacific Playland" amusement park in LA.

I thought the two main female characters in the film were strong and a good portrayal of modern young women. The older sister is ferocious, but still caring. They balance out the ditzy college student we see at the beginning.

as much as i love a good zombie movie, i have to disagree with the rating. the lead character portrays herself as a sex symbol in order to lure and abuse men.

I agree with you, Jasmine, but as it says on the front page of the list, "Please keep in mind that a movie scoring a :) does not mean it is at all 'good' or feminist friendly, just that it passes all tests." Strictly speaking, Zombieland passes the three listed criteria.

I believe this film nicely passes the test (as Kelly perfectly explained). The goal of this site is not to judge films in any way different from the said criteria, so the smiley should come back.
(I personally enjoyed the film, and failed to find it sexist).

I agree with the rating - this film definitely passes the test. Not sure why the two strong female leads end up needing to be rescued at the end (patriarchy to the rescue!) but it worked for me. How often do we get an action movie with two female leads??

If Alien passes, so does this flick.

I'd say the two girls need saving due to the Women in Refrigerators effect.

Women in Refrigerators doesn't negate the clear pass of the Bechdel test. At the end, they very clearly talk about having to shoot out the emergency switch.

There are plenty of scenes in this movie where the two main female characters talk about things other than men.

Failure of your personal test is not a failure of the Bechdel test.

I just watched this movie for the first time and I do think it passes the criteria for the Bechdel test. I am writing a paper now for this movie on "how women are portrayed in horror movies." If anyone would like to shed some knowledge to me that would be greatly appreciated!
