Yes. And it keeps on like that through the whole movie. A great example of a film that actually shows women having relationships and interests and whole lives that are not entirely about men but include both men and women. One of the most interesting things to me is that the structure of Velda and Shelly's relationship, ie how they come to know each other does revolve around a man and so it would be really easy to do the typical thing and make their relationship and dialog all about him, but they don't This feels a lot more like the way real women nd girls actually relate to each other than most films ever show.
