The Pā Boys is about a fictional band comprising three Māori men who go on a road tour around north and east New Zealand, leading to a spiritual awakening for one of them. There are only two named female characters, Puti and Jo, who accompany the men. There are few interchanges between them, and the one main time they talk to each other for more than one sentence each, is when they are talking about the main character Danny. That is, the women are mainly in the movie to advance the story lines concerning the men.
