This is a very sweet, women-friendly movie about a woman stepping out from husband's shadow and becoming an artist. However it does fail the Bechdel test. I only recall 4 named characters: Noriko (protagonist), Ushio (husband), Alex (son), and a gallery owner at the end (whose name I forgot, but it was said out loud in the movie). It does have conversations between women that are not about men, but the other characters aren't named.

Early on, there was a woman who was seeking to purchase a work. I don't think her name was given, but I might be wrong. If she did have a name then this movie would pass. They talk about what kind of painting the woman's looking for.

Daniel disagreed with the rating and said:
This rating is not true. There are more named characters - Ethan (their agent) and Alexandra (from the Guggenheim). Alexandra and Noriko have a conversation about different pieces of art work when Alexandra expresses an interest in buying a piece for the Guggenheim.

Was Alexandra's name given in the movie? If she was named in the movie then I agree, it would pass.

Antonio disagreed with the rating and said:
Alexandra's name is stated in captions and she is referred by Noriko and Ushio at least three times by the couple.

I don't know if Noriko's friend is named, but the two of them have a good talk about art that is bigger than many female interactions that pass this test
