There aren't many women characters (mostly Madela's wives) and they don't speak to each other.
I must say, it's a pity that a movie on such a grand figure has such a poor and stereotyped image of women. Even if a period of time was sexist, it is not an excuse to make a sexist movie out of it.

I strongly feel like the movie is not sexist like you say Viviane. We need to consider the fact that this movie was based on a true story and so they changing the facts would compromise the integrity of the film and Nelson's story. I think they did a great job with movie; and like you said, the period of time was sexist so its only appropriate that they use fact in this film that is based on a true story.

I must also respectfully disagree with Viviane. I believe the movie honestly depicts the process by which Mandela was born into a patriarchal society, grew up believing he was entitled, but learned from his women comrades and ultimately unlearned his patriarchal privilege.
