This movie provides a rare reversal of gender portrayal. Luke is the only major male character and he's mostly identified by being female lead's love interest. Other two named male characters (Principal Potter and Coach Wenchell) appear on screen for about 5 minutes. The three of them never talk with each other.
As for Bechdel test, the movie passes with flying colors. Mrs. Tingle, Leigh Ann, Jo Lynn, Trudie and Miss Banks talk about school projects, marks, college, irony and many, many other subjects.
