Kevin Smith is much better than the major Hollywood writers. His female characters have depth and dimension and are not all obsessed with men. Having said that, in most of his movies the males tend to dominate the conversations and discuss a variety of topic. In Mallrats despite there being a great many female characters who are strong and independent, there is only one conversation, and its about the boyfriend.
