Trish Bragg (played by Theresa Russell) was the wife of a coal miner in West Virginia when a deep mine destroyed her neighbors' water wells in 1994. She sought help from a citizens' group led by Elaine Purkey(portrayed by Tina Alexis Allen). Over the next decade, the two, joined by female neighbors, and Trish's two daughters, battled through a landmark lawsuit, a civil case, state and federal regulators and legislation, to ultimate victory...but not the expected. Her activism led Trish to college in her late 30s, graduating summa cum laude to a full-time job that took the family off welfare. And she and her group won public water systems for her remote area.
