It's more of an argument really. Jeanette Rasnick (Gena Rowlands) and her daughter Patti (Joan Jett) argue about money and the latter's professional life, which the mother wants to be more serious, while the daughter wants to dedicate to rock music and an upcoming tour. Much later, after one of her concerts, they have a conversation at hospital, which is kinda the climax of the film. They talk about Jeanette's health, and the mother says she's sorry about how she treated her daughter in the past. The past is discussed at length. Then, Jeanette asks for one last favour.
There is also a short conversation about Joe's girlfriend Laurie and Patti when they meet for the first time.
