The main character, Louise Miller, speaks to her mother (Margaret-briefly), her best friend (Polly), her drama teacher (Ms. Malloy), and her "mentor" (Madame Serena) about various things (wanting to be popular, having/ using magical powers, dissatisfaction with life, her birthday party, events at a concert, how Louise wants to dress, etc.) throughout the movie. There is a lot of discussion of romance/ men, but it does not entirely dominate the conversation between female characters.

There is also a conversation between minor, but named, female characters (Randa, Shawn, and Kiki); unfortunately, though it is not about men, the characters are generally putting each other down (one can't sing well, the other has an alcoholic mother, one doesn't cover her roots well, etc.)
