The two female characters, Ellen March and Jill Bandford, have nothing to do in a snow-covered farm in the middle of Canada at the beginning of the 20th apart from talking to each other. They talk about the fox which is constantly killing their hens, about prices going up, about the ever-breaking fence around their farm, about their finances, about the farm about to break even, about the distribution of the tasks among the both of them, about the receipt for the cookies, about the isolation at night, and about the relationship between the both of them.
