If you're good-willed enough to adress props used in this movie as "characters", then movie indeed passes.
Lori and Janet have small chit-chats trought entire movie, particularly during their visit in the mall. When Lori's shoelace gets sucked in by escalator, Janet tries to free her leg and they exchange some dialougs. Later Lori see signs of death coming and talk with Janet about that, but she shrugs it of as nothing.
There's also another example I'm not sure about. Early in the movie Samantha goes to beauty parlor, where she talk with Cheyenne and Dee Dee about different things, but I don't think Samantha is ever named in the movie itself, exept for end credits and short shot of article about her death.
