There are only two female characters in the whole film, a train conductor who interacts with Travolta's character and Washington's wife. Neither of them has a role big enough to count.

Both of the women bellacoker mentioned are named in the movie. The conductor says her name is Regina, and Denzel's character calls his wife Therese. I agree there roles are small, but this should be a 1/3 since they are named.
There are at least 2 more unnamed women: a hostage, and a hostage's girlfriend.
