Women make roughly half of the cast, with the main character being a woman as well (Albertine). The family relationships show several conversations between women, and although they often talk about men - mostly their husbands - they do talk about several other topics, about themselves and about their children, both male and female.
The film clearly positions itself as feminist, with Julie Delpy's character herself (Anna) criticizing patriarchal ideas.
