The titular character, Karen Silkwood (Meryl Streep), works at the Kerr-McGee plutonium processing plant. She comes to suspect a cover-up of safety violations at the plant, and after trying to rally her coworkers together and enlist the help of the media, she becomes a target: she's contaminated with plutonium under suspicious circumstances and ultimately dies in a car wreck, possibly the victim of manslaughter or homicide. During the film she discusses the conspiracy with several female coworkers, including her roommate, Dolly (Cher). Based on a true story.
