Not only passes the test, but also has some powerfully drawn female characters, including a hard-working matriarch who holds her family together, and a teenage girl who works at being a writer and eventually helps make her family more financially stable. (There's also a younger girl with a wonderful interest in animals who dreams of being a veterinarian.) The story is set in the early 1900s in San Francisco.

And the scene in which Mama tracks down and convinces a celebrated female author character named Florence Dana Moorhead to read her daughter Katrin's stories and the subsequent scene where Mama shares Moorhead's thoughts and advice with Katrin could both be used as models for Bechdel-Test-passing film conversations--not even ahead of their time, rare at any time!
