Though it has more than one named female character, they never interact, and indeed are discarded very quickly. Once one is introduced, you know you won't see the others again.

Well that- and the fact that it has Bond date rape Pussy Galore.

I agree with the rating: this movie fails on principle, especially the "sex" scene which involves an explicit lack of consent. However, Pussy Galore's Flying Circus, named by their position on the flying team, does talk to each other as Operation Grand Slam is being executed, and Pussy Galore herself talks to her pilots about their Flying Skills. It isn't much, but it's a moment that passes the test within a film that fails as a whole. Which is an interesting dynamic to consider.

Remember: Passes the test does NOT mean it is a good or feminist movie. Passes the test just mean that this three questions can be answered with "yes". And as Kelly descripes GOLDFINGER can answer all three with "yes".

I agree with Kelly. There are multiple times that Pussy talks with her Flying Circus. I think that passes the test. It's a very ironic film. Bond slaps a girl in the butt because of "man talk". But then Pussy is one of the strongest characters in a Bond film. She's the one that completes the mission. Bond literally didn't do anything.

Requirement 1: there are at least six named females: Moneypenny, Dink, Jill Masterson, Tilly Masterson, Mei Lei, Pussy Galore.

Requirement 2: Mei Lei has an exchange with Pussy Galore who is meeting her off a plane (58’):
- Mei Lei will you see everything’s all right with Mr Goldfinger
- Of course
- I’ll see you surprisingly soon

Requirement 3. Not met, since this exchange concerns Bond. Galore's final remark does not elicit a response, hence the whole fails on "talk to each other about sth other than a man".

The chief fighter pilot is referred to twice as ‘Champagne leader’, once in an exchange with Galore (60’) However, ‘Champagne’ is not her name but presumably that of the fighter pilot group she leads, so this references her function (compare ‘Dambusters leader’).

The film is thus not Bechdel but the rating is wrong : it should be 2/3.

@mat Champagne Leader's name is Denise, though her name only appears in the script, so I'm not sure if it should count

Champagne Leader is a name. The test said the character had to be named; it didn't give restrictions on who gave her the name. She definitely talks to Pussy about something other than a man. I wouldn't ever go to bat for a Bond movie from the 60s being an example of a good feminist movie, but let's not rewrite the rules of the game.

@Dustin: "Champagne leader" is not a name since as Cel points out, this character has a conventional name in the script, and "leader" is a common noun referencing her function. The issue isn't who gives the name, but whether it is a "name", i.e. a permanent term for a person, not one contingent on their current role. When Denise retires, someone else will be "Champagne leader". @Cel: The fact that "Denise" is used in the script isn't valid, no, since the script is not part of the "movie" the rules refer to. Similarly, many many films give female characters names in the credits, when these names are nowhere to be found in the film itself.
