The movie, based on the 1960's play, is about a birthday party involving eight gay men--seven friends and one prostitute as the birthday present--and one surprise straight guest.

There are no women, other than Alan's wife, Fran, who is mentioned and spoken to over the phone, but never heard nor seen.
