Taffyta Muttonfudge confronts Vanellope von Schweetz about how she shouldn't be allowed to race.

I have to call it dubious, the main problem is that most of the characters are either talking to Ralph or Felix, so while their are a lot of strong female characters with important dialouge, much of it not about the male lead, but about the events going on around them.

There's only two prominent female characters in this movie (out of four characters total), and they never speak to each other. However, main character Vanellope and some of the other female racers (Taffyta, Candlehead, Jubileena, and Crumbelina) discuss racing in several scenes.

I don't see how it's dubious at all. There may not be a lot of it, but there are several female characters, clearly named, clearly having a conversation about a topic other than men. It's a clear pass.

2 Powerful female characters featured and their status in the film is equal to that of the male characters.

I agree with the current rating, but just curious if anyone else considers the "conversation" between Calhoun and the gamer girl via the first-person unit as passing. It's not a traditional exchange, but they DO see and address each other.

Also, Taffyta and (the Princess) talk, about the Princess.

Jen, I would not count the exchange between Calhoun and the gamer girl. First, she doesn't have a name, but even so, the girl doesn't speak back to Calhoun, and Calhoun isn't responding to anything the girl is saying, just whatever the game would make the gamer do.

I agree that while the interaction between Calhoun and the girl gamer doesn't count as far as the test goes, I still found it intriguing that the gamer was, in fact, female. There were also a pretty equal number of male and female leads (Ralph and Vanellope) and supporting characters (Felix and Calhoun. I mean the focus is obviously on Ralph as the protagonist, but all these characters were very important to the story. A lot of the supporting cast was female, too, especially a lot of the racers. Personally I'm really happy with it- my only complaint being the lack of PoC in any leading roles (though a lot of the racers especially were racially diverse), but I guess that's a whole other test.

Everyone in the comments seems to be forgetting that the Bechdel test specifies 'woman', not 'female'. The two terms do not mean the same thing, and little girls do not equal women, at least in my books. Given that Calhoun is the only named speaking woman (to my memory) in the entire movie, I don't believe this movie passes the Bechdel test, no matter how much I enjoyed it.

That's like saying that little girls aren't allowed to use the women's restroom because it says "women" instead of "female"...
Also, we are not eliminating movies such as A Bugs Life or My Little Pony or even The Hobbit from being rated just because their characters aren't even human...little girls count.

It passes on a technicality. Perhaps it's better to say "female" characters than women. But they are named. And they don't talk about a man in a romantic sense. Granted much of the conversation in the Sugar Rush game amounts to taunting Vanellope, but I would say it passes.

Alex, sorry but I totally disagree.

Let's remember that this is a children's movie. Out of the 4 main characters (Ralph, Vanellope, Felix, and Calhoun) only Vanellope is a child. She is the one that the target audience will likely relate with the best. She faces problems similar to them: she gets left out and teased. Also, she is a complete character that is not just defined by her age/gender. She has a real personality as well as her own likes, dislikes and aspirations. Honestly she's more of a woman than many adult female excuses-for-characters in other movies. To disqualify her based merely on her age makes no sense.
