Passes with flying colors. This movie has many named female characters who are members of the Bellas (an all-female singing group) and discuss the group's musical choices and chances of winning the big competition.

The movie features numerous named female characters, many of whom speak to each other, about topics other than men. The female characters develop friendships that do not involve men. Female empowerment.

Yes, it passes and it's one of my favorite movies. Definitely empowers women by showing that women can be capable of doing something big like winning a big competition.

The "power" this movie gives to women is all about sex. I enjoyed the movie and the musical numbers were wonderful, but I made sure to point out to my daughter that they want her to think her power is in and comes from sex.

I don't think their power comes from sexuality. Their power comes from working hard and becoming good friends who support one another. They don't win the contest based on sex factor. They win because they pull together and rock that final number.

I agree with Jamie. I think their power comes from forming a strong female friendship and doing well at their competition. Their sexuality is pretty downplayed compared to most films about women.

This movie is amazing and left me feeling great about myself as a woman. Especially since this film also did really well in the mainstream AND they're making a sequel. Evidence that female-centered films CAN and DO make money and that audiences respond to them.

(Ya hear that film producers?? MORE FILMS LIKE THIS ONE! YOU CAN DOOO IT!)

It passes, but I don't think it is particularly empowering as some people say it is. It does fat-shame and slut-shame its characters.
