Maid Marian and Bess have two or three conversations but they all revolve around Robin Hood or his band of men.

Emma disagreed with the rating and said:
1. There are at least 2 women: Maid Marian and Bess.
2. They talk together, and it is implied that they have always talked to each other.
3. Yes, they only talk about a man, but not of him as a man. They talk about his actions and his meanings. Yes, Marian is in love with him and she acts upon that love, but it's not because of his dashing looks and charm. She falls for him only after she knows his true, caring nature, only after she visits the camp. Marian fights for his ideals and his meaning just as much as she fights for him alone.

Sorry, Emma, but the test is whether the conversation is about anything other than a man. The fact that Marion was talking to Bess about her love for Robin makes it an obvious failure.

Remember, however, that movies can fail this test and still be great movies.

David disagreed with the rating and said:
It isn't true that Bess and Marian only talk "about" Robin and his men. After Robin is taken prisoner, Bess and Marian have an extended discussion about how Marian can get into contact with the men; Bess describes the tavern where she drinks with them, she gives Marian the password ... This is clearly a conversation about something other than a man.
