Bechdel Test Movie List

I happened upon this movie today and upon your site. A very retro movie with an outdated concept of women, as the concept began to change at the turn of the 19-20th century and continued to evolve thru to now. So curious about how bechdeltest would rate an older film.

While the film is by no means a paragon of feminist principles, it does meet the basic qualifications for a Bechdel pass. There are quite a few scenes where Gigi receives etiquette instruction from her aunt & instances where she speaks to her grandmother about something other then men.

I've known quite few people to have misunderstood this film. Not saying it's a feminist film but the film doesn't necessarily advocate some of views about women expressed by some of its characters. As far as the test is concerned, agree with Ebony that it passes. says. It might be argued the etiquette training is ultimately related to trying to make Gigi some rich man's mistress but the conversations are about specific topics like food, jewellery, posture, etc. and often Gigi questions her aunt's views and expresses distaste for them. Her grandmother and aunt speak about Gigi and also about Gaston's ex-mistress. Her grandmother speaks to Gigi about being late in going to her aunt's. There might be other examples but since just one will do, the film should satisfy the test.
