I don't disagree, because I think in theory if the "man" being discussed is an alien in a role that is not gender-specific, it shouldn't count as a "man", and therefore conversations about Klaatu shouldn't count as "talking about a man" but I thought I was alone in that theory. So I assume there must have been conversations relating to the spaceship and stuff that I don't recall.

I agree with the rating. There are multiple exchanges between female characters in relation to emotion, although these are usually just one back-and -forth. There are multiple women in leadership positions who discuss the problem at hand, often in the company of a larger number of men- but two women in a meeting is still hard to come by, consistently, in film. This movie does an adequate if not impressive job.
