No surprise here as the original source comics are noted for their complete lack of female characters. Hervé, the writer, resisted the criticism that he was sexist. His goal was to write adventure "boy scout" stories; in such a prepubescent world, girls don't figure.
I am not defending his reasoning, but just calling attention to it. Given that Hervé was doing these strips in the 1940s, one can see the context.
At least he was honest.

Just a good example of how unnecessary this all is. The Herge books don't fail the test-for example, Bianca Castafiore had a named maid who she talks to. This is a choice made in the 21 c by the same guy who consistently produces Bechdel failing Dr Who and Sherlock scripts.
