I agree with Andrew; the conversation between Gilda and Maria allows it to pass - but just barely.

Having said that, this film is ultimately about the love affair of two men - and the woman who comes between them (Glen Ford and George Macready have both said that they deliberately played it that way). Gilda (Rita Hayworth) is explicitly the "Other" in this story.
