Bechdel Test Movie List

To be fair, it's a silent film.

It doesn't matter that it's a silent film. Characters are shown talking to each other even if we don't hear them.

OK, I haven't watched it yet, but given that the film is silent, if two named female characters talk to each other in it, even if we can't hear them, it should count!

There are more than two female characters, and two of (Peppy Miller and the Nurse) them DO talk to each other (silent movie though it is), about George Valentin.

It doesn't matter if it's silent. Being silent is functionally the same as being in another language. SOME audience members can understand what they're saying. In this case, people who can read lips.

Anyway, there are at least two named female characters (Peppy and Mrs. Valentin), but I can't recall any others or them conversing at all.

I can't even remember the second female character. Much less if she "speaks" (you know what i mean). BTW, Peppy herself was considered a supporting role because the movie is all about George Valentin

Not remembering the second female character doesn't mean she wasn't there. There were four female characters whom I remember having lines; Constance (Missi Pyle's character who was George's unpleasant leading lady) George's wife (Doris) Peppy Miller, and the nurse at Peppy's house (who talked to Peppy, but only about George's condition.) The movie doesn't pass the test, but there WERE two female characters who DID talk to each other.

Isn't the first rule that there must be two women with names? "The nurse" isn't a name, yo.

The nurse (which isn't a name) and Peppy only talk about George, who's obviously a man. None of the other women exchange words. Doesn't pass the test.
