There are more than two female characters in this movie. Two in particular have conversations not having to do with men-- conversations that are plot relevant and have to do with the politics at the time. One women is an empress, she rules China without a man at her side. The other is a soldier of sorts who serves the empress. These characters are consistently featured throughout the film.
