In this D. W. Griffith melodrama, the only named female character is the abused heroine, Lucy. An unnamed "married acquaintance" with several kids stops hand-washing her laundry long enough to tell Lucy, "Whatever you do, dearie, don't get married." And two anonymous hookers warn Lucy against becoming a prostitute.
