I don't remember much about this movie, saw it in a film class, but the cast is stellar. Any Sissy Spacek from the Seventies will likely pass the test. :)

This is a remarkable film and layered with meaning between the three characters played by Shelley Duvall, Sissy Spacek, and Janice Rule. The conversations often seem banal, but are actually quite mysterious and illuminating. Altman made up for Hot Lips in my book.

Great movie that got a good response in a women and writing class. You often view events through water, it's dotted with odd symbols, and very dreamlike. It's one of the first movies I thought of for this list. (And ditto about Altman and Hot Lips.)
